Oita Prefecture is located in the eastern area of the island Kyushu (located in the south-west of the Japanese archipelago). The region is blessed with rich nature as it is close to both the mountains and the sea. For these reasons, itfs Oitafs great joy to be able to serve its fresh delicacies from the sea, as well as its meat and vegetables.
Also, Oita has a rich history and cultural heritage that is unmissable for those who wish to learn about Japan. In Oita you can enjoy visiting shrines, Buddhist temples and Buddhist statues.
What is more, Oitafs pride is onsen (hot springs). Places in Oita Prefecture, such as Beppu and Yufuin, are full of onsen, and in terms of the amount of onsen sources and the amount of onsen water rushing from the earth, it is known as the gOnsen Capital of Japanh throughout Japan.

gMessage from Oita Prefecture Governor, Mr. Katsusada Hiroseh
I am so pleased that the 25th Japan-America Grassroots Summit will be held in Oita Prefecture.
Oita is a popular tourist destination because of its onsen, its rich nature, history, and culture, as well as its culinary delicacies from both the mountains and sea. Oita welcomes tourists from all over the world.
Please be sure to get to know Oitafs nature and food, and meet and befriend many people from Oita.
I hope you make friendships here that are comparable to or surpass the friendship between John Manjiro and Captain Whitfield.

The second day in Oita will begin with 5 optional local tours.
